A Multi-Link Coupling

It was just another sales call to a customer. As we were discussing routine matters the customer put up the problem.

He had a pump in a radioactive area fitted with a conventional Flexible Membrane Coupling . Whenever he needed to attend to the pump or the motor , dismantling the coupling was the operation which was increasing the exposure time for his workmen.

Can you do something about it ? He asked.

We went through many options which could possibly reduce the time required. None of the standard designs were suiting the application.

We then discussed with our vendors, designed and manufactured a Coupling with a four link element, which could be removed between the hub faces with the removal of just one bolt. The coupling was manufactured and the sample was tested at site. The results were amazing to the client.

The removal time was reduced by almost 60%.
